In 1998, the
Executive Leadership Council sponsored the largest supplemental
advertising section in the history of Forbes magazine. Entitled
"Diversity a Business Imperative," the supplement featured
diversity case statements from ELC member companies such as American
Express, the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies, Sears, Roebuck
and Co., Philip Morris Companies Inc., and GPU Inc.
Included in
the advetorial was a "Declaration of Diversity" signed
by 62 CEOs affirming that "We the undersigned Chief Executive
Officers declare diversity a 21st century business imperative."
Companies represented included Aetna Inc., Bell Atlantic Corporation,
Consolidated Edison Corporation of New York, DuPont, Kellogg Company,
Motorola, Inc., Nickelodeon, Sara Lee Corporation, and Shell Oil
Company.
